About OBCref.com

Free · No ads · No paywalls · Just the code.

OBCref.com was built out of frustration with the existing options for accessing the Ontario Building Code online. The alternatives are slow, ad-laden, hard to search, and often don't make it easy to navigate between cross-referenced clauses — something that anyone who regularly works with the OBC knows is essential.

This site is built by a practising Ontario architect, for architects, contractors, building officials, designers, and students. It serves both the 2012 and 2024 editions of the OBC, which matters right now during the transition period where projects permitted before April 2025 may still fall under the 2012 edition.

The goal is simple: give professionals a fast, clean, reliable reference tool they can actually use on site, in the office, or anywhere. No account required to browse and search. No ads. No paywalls. Just the code.
